During the first two weeks of the new academic year 2023/24, we had a culinary revolution. The Erasmus Office, together with the University Student Council of AWF Wrocław, organised, for the first time in the history of the university, a Used Pots and Kitchen Equipment Fair.
The fair was a great opportunity to get rid of old pots and kitchen accessories that have been gathering dust for years and needlessly taking up space in our cupboards. But that is not all! If someone was missing a pot, pan or mug, they could find exactly what they needed at the fair. In the end, some utensils were already redundant for us, but for others they turned out to be extremely useful and desirable. Especially the foreign Erasmus students who came to our university for a short period of time were delighted to get the equipment they needed.
For those who donated cookware (mainly academic staff), it was a great opportunity to tidy up the kitchen cupboard. After all, what was collecting dust was no longer right for our kitchens. For the gainers, it was a financial saving and an opportunity to avoid buying new equipment. Our old pots, cups and pans were getting a second or even third life. It was like the magic of recycling working before our eyes. Mother Earth also benefited from this event. Extending the life cycle of a product is a step towards reducing carbon emissions, and we were proud to be part of this positive change. Erasmus goes green!
The fair was held in the student club ‘DISCUSS’, which is often referred to as the ‘Boar’. This is where, every day for a fortnight, students received and gave away equipment. They also told new students about their studies, customs, events and Student Council actions. This event certainly left a taste of success and a desire for more green initiatives. A round of applause for Erasmus, the University Student Council, the donors and everyone who contributed to this unique fair. We are ready for more adventures like this!
